Declutter and Entertain at the Same Time?
NO! IT'S NOT A CRAZY IDEA!
Declutter while preparing for a big holiday meal, making room for extra guests, and more? YES!
Often, we can accomplish the most while we are the busiest. The key to being successful is being aware of your task at hand.
This is where mental notes and post it notes are a big plus.
Menu making: Make sure you have the proper utensils called for in the recipe.
This makes you go through your utility drawers, baking pans, etc. ahead of time. You don't want to get stuck in the middle of cooking. You may not remember that you tossed something last year but didn't replace it yet).
If you have 1, (ok, maybe 2 for a kitchen helper) you're in good shape. If you have more than 2, toss or donate the extras.
If you are missing a utensil, put it on the shopping list along with the food you need.
Planning for sleep over guests: Make sure you have enough sheets , pillow cases etc. that are presentable.
You may run out of time and have to use what you have but put a note on the inside of your linen closet as to what you need to buy.
At the end of the holiday, when the guests go home, get rid of the sheets/pillowcases, towels that were not in good shape. (You can reuse some and make rags, etc, but how many of those do you need)?
Replace with new items. Now is the time to buy and take advantage of sales.
My wonderful Aunt Sybil had a favorite expression: "Busy and Dizzy." Her husband, my beloved Uncle Iz, always counseled us to "DW: Do Work, Don't Worry."
The point is to be mindful of what you are doing while you are doing it. It will help later on for the next celebrations, small or large.
Wishing you and yours a very mindful, happy Thanksgiving.
